Good product but as most gamers extended use product that become unbearable to wear for extended periods of time (30 min). Would not recommend for anyone unless you just have money to burn.

I thought that I just had to have a set of these as I have most of the Saitek Pro Flight equipment to use with FSX. I already had a good pair of headphones but wanted that “aviator” look. Upon arrival I anxiously cut open the blister pack and withdrew the wonderful-looking headset. I plugged them into my PC’s audio and proceeded to place the set on my head. Uh-Oh!… They were too short to reach my ears fully. I checked for additional travel and there was none. They were fully extended. Oh No! Well I just had to try something so I loosened the screws and extended them past the stops and tried them again. Uh-Oh! The muffs were also too small. They would not fit completely over my ears and the depth was too shallow so my ears rested against the bottoms. Well I still just needed to make them work so I endured them for two days but they were too uncomfortable and too hot to use for more than a little while.

Amazon readily issued me a return RMA so I packaged them up and off they went on their return trip to Amazon. Now I’m back with my Plantronics GameComs which do fit comfortably and actually have superior sound to the Saitek’s but with a much poorer microphone. The Saiteks did have a great microphone. I actually could hear my wife’s footsteps as she walked into our computer room, and the floor is carpeted. The Plantronic’s mic is terrible and hardly picks up anything. Fortunately I don’t use the mic anyways but wanted a headset with one just in case.

    PROS:

    - good looks

    - very responsive mic, but you can’t shut it off. The button just stops the mic while it is depressed but restarts immediately after you let go of it.

    - Headphones are just so-so. I have a few pairs of cheapy Walkman-style that actually sound better.

    - Volume control works well.

    CONS:

    - Unless you are a child, or young teenager, they will probably be too small for you.

    - Too hot to wear for long.

    - Head phones are not great. Marginally acceptable.

    - Mic arm gets in the way.

    OVERALL IMPRESSION:

Looks good but very uncomfortable. Too small for most adults. I sent them back so that pretty much states my opinion.

I’ve not tried these with MS flight sim. But, with several combat sims I have, this product has HORRIBLE sound.

    Negatives:

These are way too tight. I wear glasses and within 15 minutes, I can feel parts of the skin near my ears getting numb.

I’m well over 40. So, my hearing ain’t what it used to be. TOO MUCH BASE! It hurts my ears and I can’t distinguish sounds with lower base (higher pitch sounds). It’s too difficult to discern other sounds that aren’t loud…then, when loud, hurts your ears.

Mic boom is difficult to adjust properly at higher angles for smaller heads. It’s range of movement is fine at lower angles, but as you raise it, you’re afraid to bend or break it.

    Postives:

The volume control is nice. It’s very responsive and provides plenty of volume when you need it.

The mic is very sensitive. I had to reduce the mic input when using mic boost inside windows as it was picking up sounds from across the house (and that was through a closed door!)

Nice mute button feature on the front of the mic. If you use voice on all the time, this is nice because you can mut it at the touch of the front of the mic.

Over all, due to the lack of comfort and the inability to distinguish between sounds, I can’t rate this more than a 2. I wish I could rate it a 1.5 because that’s how bad I don’t like it. At the price I bought it for ($99) it was a waste of money for me.

Saitek has developed a great flight simmer headset. For a pair of “Cans”, these are as close to the real thing as you can get. They are precision and high quality. The only con that I notice, is the headband is not as large as it should be. If your head is on the large size, these might be a little tight.

The Saitek PH09 Pro Flight Headset is about as close to the real thing as you will find! It has a quality build and if placed next to a real flight headset of the same design, you would be hard pressed to tell them apart. Audio wise it is excellent & the fact that you can “hear” your own voice feedback through the earphones as you speak is a real plus. (Many headsets do not do this very well.) Another great feature is a handy volume control on the left earpod. What can I say? I enjoyed this product so much I bought a set for a very good but particular flight sim buddy of mine. Don’t hesitiate to buy this item if you want the look and feel of a real flight headset.
